Sex Before Marriage

The Bible teaches that sex is a gift from God, intended for marriage between one man and one woman. In the biblical formula for marriage at creation, we find that a man and woman become one flesh (Genesis 2:24). This union is meant to be a lifelong commitment, between two people who have given their consent to marry each other. The Bible emphasizes that sex is not just a physical act, but a deeply personal and intimate one that requires a deep sense of commitment and responsibility.

The Bible is clear that sex outside of marriage is not permissible. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, the apostle Paul warns against immorality and advises believers to flee from sexual immorality. Similarly, in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7, Paul instructs believers to live in a way that is pleasing to God, and to abstain from sexual immorality. The Bible teaches that sex is a wonderful gift from God, but it is not something to be taken lightly or used carelessly. Rather, it is a privilege reserved for marriage, where two people have made a lifelong commitment to each other.

In the New Testament, we are also warned about the consequences of sex outside of marriage. In Hebrews 13:4, we are told to honor marriage, and that God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. This warning is not just about punishing those who engage in sex outside of marriage, but also about the importance of living a life that reflects God's values and standards. The Bible teaches that sex is a sacred and beautiful gift, but it is also a responsibility that requires commitment, loyalty, and fidelity. By following God's design for sex and marriage, we can experience the joy and intimacy that He intends for us.
