The Bible's View on Lying

The Bible teaches that lying is a serious sin, and there are consequences for those who lie. According to Proverbs 19:5, a false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape. In Deuteronomy 19:16-19, the law requires that false witnesses be punished, and in Leviticus 19:11-12, 16, perjury is linked with all varieties of lying, including dealing falsely, gossip, breaking contract, and swearing falsely in God's name.
