Did Jesus drink wine?

The Bible provides several accounts of Jesus' interaction with wine. In John 2:1-10, Jesus turns water into wine at a wedding feast. The wine is described as "very good wine" (John 2:9) and is estimated to be around 120-150 gallons. Jesus' ability to create wine from water is seen as a demonstration of his glory and power (John 2:11). In Luke 7:34, Jesus is accused of being a "glutton and a drunkard" because he "eats and drinks" with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus responds by saying that he has come to call sinners to repentance, not to be a glutton or a drunkard.

Jesus also drank wine with his disciples on several occasions. In Matthew 26:29, Jesus says, "I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." This indicates that Jesus was accustomed to drinking wine with his disciples and saw it as a part of their fellowship. However, in John 19:28-30, Jesus refuses to drink wine vinegar offered to him on the cross, saying "It is finished." This act is seen as a demonstration of Jesus' willingness to suffer and die for the sins of humanity.

The Bible does not provide a clear answer to the question of whether Jesus drank wine in a state of intoxication. While Jesus did drink wine with his disciples and was accused of being a drunkard, there is no indication that he was intoxicated. In fact, Jesus' ability to create wine from water and his refusal to drink wine vinegar on the cross suggest that he was in control of his actions and was not under the influence of alcohol. Ultimately, the question of whether Jesus drank wine is secondary to the fact that he used wine as a symbol of his presence and love for his followers.
