Biblical Answer

The Bible teaches that God can forgive sexual sin. In fact, Jesus demonstrated this in the story of the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11). When the Pharisees brought her to Jesus and said, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he stood up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." And again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest, until the only one left was the woman standing in the middle. Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one, sir." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin" (John 8:1-11). This story shows that Jesus can forgive sexual sin, but it also shows that he expects us to turn from our sin and live a life that is pleasing to God.

However, forgiveness does not mean that sexual sin is not serious or that it is okay to continue in it. The Bible teaches that sexual sin is a serious sin that can lead to spiritual death and separation from God. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, the apostle Paul writes, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies." This passage shows that sexual sin is a serious sin that can have serious consequences.

Ultimately, the Bible teaches that God can forgive sexual sin, but it also teaches that we must repent of our sin and turn to God in order to be forgiven. This means that we must acknowledge our sin, turn away from it, and seek God's forgiveness and help to live a life that is pleasing to him. As the Bible says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). This means that we can be forgiven of our sexual sin and live a life that is pleasing to God, but it requires us to turn from our sin and seek God's forgiveness and help.
