Can I even afford to eat?

Understanding God's Provision

Firstly, we must understand that God's provision for our needs is not limited to our financial capabilities. In Isaiah 55:1-2, God invites us to come and buy wine and milk without money and without price. This verse suggests that God's provision is not tied to our financial resources but rather to our willingness to trust and obey Him. Jesus also teaches us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all these things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33). This means that our financial needs are not a barrier to trusting God for our daily bread.

Faith and Trust in God's Provision

However, it's essential to acknowledge that our circumstances can be challenging, and it's easy to get caught up in thinking that we can't afford to eat. But, as the Bible says, "You must not eat what is already dead" (Exodus 22:31). This command assumes that as God's image bearers, humans should think, seek, and ask God for guidance and provision. Instead of relying solely on our financial resources, we should trust God to provide for our needs. This doesn't mean we won't have to work or make financial decisions, but it means that our trust and reliance should be on God, not just our bank account.

The Importance of Priorities

In essence, the question "Can I even afford to eat?" reveals a deeper issue of priorities. Are we trusting God for our daily bread, or are we relying solely on our financial resources? As Jesus teaches, "You must not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear" (Matthew 6:25). Instead, we should focus on seeking God's kingdom and righteousness, and He will take care of our physical needs. By prioritizing our relationship with God and trusting Him for our provision, we can experience true freedom and contentment, even in the midst of financial challenges.
