The Biblical View of Alcoholism

The Bible does not explicitly forbid drinking alcoholic beverages, but it does condemn acts of drunkenness and excessive drinking. In fact, the Bible speaks against the use of alcohol as a beverage, warning of its dangers and consequences. Proverbs 23:29-35, for example, describes the devastating effects of excessive drinking, including stomach problems, frequent ailments, and a general lack of wisdom.

The Nature of Alcoholism

The Bible views alcoholism as a sin, not a sickness or disease. Drunkenness is always called sin, never sickness, and is considered a pattern of behavior that is contrary to God's law.
