Can a Person Still be a Good Christian if They Struggle with Depression?

Depression can cast a shadow on faith, making it difficult to feel jubilant or even to believe. However, this does not mean that a person cannot be a good Christian if they struggle with depression. Jesus said, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent" (John 6:29). This means that believing in Jesus is the most important thing, even when faith feels weak. A good Christian is someone who seeks to live faithfully before God, not someone who feels a certain way.

In fact, depression can be a test of faith, and it is possible to emerge from it with a stronger faith. The Bible says, "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). This means that even in the midst of depression, a Christian can find opportunities to grow in their faith and become more like Jesus. A good Christian is someone who is willing to listen to God's promises and try to live according to them, even when it's hard.

A good Christian is not someone who is always happy or feels a certain way, but someone who seeks to live faithfully before God. As the Bible says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37). This means that a good Christian is someone who seeks to love God with all their heart, even when they are struggling with depression. They are willing to seek help from others, to listen to God's promises, and to try to live according to them, even when it's hard. By doing so, they can emerge from depression with a stronger faith and become a more mature Christian.
