Understanding Purpose in Life

As Christians, we understand that our purpose in life is not something we create for ourselves, but rather something God has ordained for us. We are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). Our purpose is not found in our jobs or careers, but in our relationship with God and serving Him. However, this does not mean that our daily lives are meaningless or without purpose. On the contrary, our daily lives are filled with opportunities to serve God and fulfill our purpose.

When we are no longer working, it can be challenging to find purpose in life. However, this does not mean that our purpose is lost. Rather, it may be that our purpose is being fulfilled in different ways. For example, we may have more time to serve God, engage in community service, or pursue hobbies that bring us joy and fulfillment. Our purpose is not tied to our job or career, but to our relationship with God and serving Him.

As we navigate this season of life, it's essential to focus on Jesus and His purpose for us. We are called to live a life that reflects God's values and teachings, and to use our time and resources to serve Him. By doing so, we can find purpose and meaning in life, even when we are no longer working. As Guinness notes, "Once you receive a commission from Jesus Christ, the memory of what God asks of you will always be there to prod you on to do His will" (The Call, 2003). This commission is a reminder that our purpose is not just about what we do, but about who we are in Christ.
