Your Question:

Can I still find meaning in life with a terminal illness?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've seen many individuals face terminal illnesses and struggle to find meaning in their lives. But I believe that even in the midst of suffering, there is still purpose and meaning to be found. When we care for others who are terminally ill, we demonstrate a love for life, for theirs and ours, as well as for the God who sovereignly gives life and calls us to be a caring community.

In the midst of chronic illness, we can still find ways to celebrate our love for life and for others. We can continue to serve, to care for those around us, and to find joy in the small steps of faith and obedience. As Scripture reminds us, "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). Even in the darkness of depression and terminal illness, there is hope. We can find meaning in our lives by serving others, by speaking hope to those who are hopeless, and by trusting in the goodness and sovereignty of God.

As I've seen in my own life and in the lives of those I've pastored, it's possible to find joy and contentment even in the midst of suffering. When we look to God and rely on His strength, we can find the courage to keep going, even when the pain and fatigue are overwhelming. We can find purpose in serving others, in being an ambassador of hope to those who are struggling, and in trusting in the goodness of God, even when we don't understand His plan.
