Your Question:

What happens when I'm gone?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've often thought about what happens when we're gone. And I believe that for believers like myself and my wife Susan, our souls immediately go into the presence of God when we die. This is a comforting thought, as it means that we'll be with our Lord and Savior, free from the struggles and hardships of this world. It's a temporary separation from our physical bodies, but our souls will be at peace, enjoying the presence of God.

But what about those who don't know Christ? Unfortunately, they'll face a different fate. Their souls will be separated from God's presence, and they'll experience a deep sense of wretchedness and longing that can never be fulfilled. It's a calamity that's so great, it's fittingly described as death. And even if they wander through the universe, searching for something to satisfy their desires, they'll never find it. Their souls will be cut off from God, the source of all blessedness.

As a Christian, I take comfort in the promise that our souls will be reunited with our bodies when Christ returns. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15, "The dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed." And in 1 Thessalonians, he says that the souls of those who have died and gone to be with Christ will come back and be joined with their bodies on that day, when Christ brings them with him. It's a beautiful promise that gives us hope and reassurance about what happens when we're gone.
