Your Question:

why does god feel so distant?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've had my fair share of conversations with people who feel like God is distant. I've experienced it myself, especially when I was younger. I remember feeling confused and unsure of how to connect with God. But as I grew in my faith and understanding of scripture, I came to realize that the distance is not physical, but moral. It's the separation caused by sin that makes us feel far from God.

The Bible teaches us that God is always present, even when we can't feel it. He's immanent, meaning he's always with us, but we can't always sense his presence. It's like the radio frequencies that are all around us, but we need a special device to detect them. Similarly, we need a change of heart, a change of state, to experience God's presence. And that change is made possible through faith in Jesus Christ. When we put our trust in Him, we're brought near to God, and the distance is bridged.

As I reflect on my own experiences and the struggles of others, I'm reminded of the psalmist's words in Psalm 73. He felt like God was far away, but in the end, he came to understand that God's presence was not absent, but rather, he was satisfied in being near God in worship and trusting Him as his refuge. It's a reminder that our feelings don't always align with reality, and that God's presence is always available to us, even when we can't feel it.
