The Nature of Trusting God

Trusting God is not about having all the answers or understanding everything. It's about placing our faith and confidence in Him, even when we don't understand. As Psalm 31:19 says, "Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!" (NKJV). This verse encourages us to trust in God's goodness, even in the midst of uncertainty.

The Role of Faith in Trusting God

Faith is a fundamental aspect of trusting God. It's not a feeling or an emotion, but a strong and vigorous confidence built on the fact that God is holy love. As Job 13:15 says, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him." (NKJV). This verse highlights the importance of trusting God, even in the midst of difficulties and challenges. Faith is not about being passive or inactive, but about actively trusting and relying on God's goodness and love.

Developing Trust in God

Developing trust in God requires perseverance and practice. As we respond to God in obedience, we can develop a knack for trusting Him consistently. This is called perseverance. Rather than pining for answers or understanding, we can focus on building our faith by "the practice of the presence of God" (see 1 Cor 2:11-14). When we are constantly talking to Christ and seeking His presence, it becomes easier to trust Him. As Brother Lawrence wrote, "We build our faith by the practice of the presence of God." (see 1 Cor 2:11-14). By making God a priority in our lives, we can develop a strong and vibrant faith that enables us to trust Him, even in the midst of uncertainty.
