Biblical Answer

The question of whether one can still be a good person if they are struggling financially is a complex one. From a biblical perspective, it is clear that money is not the measure of a person's worth or goodness. The Bible teaches that we are to be content with what we have, and that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). However, this does not mean that financial struggles are not a challenge to our character. The Bible also teaches that our actions are a reflection of our heart, and that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:39).

In fact, financial struggles can often reveal our true character. When we are struggling financially, we may be tempted to turn to sinful means to solve our problems, such as taking out loans or engaging in dishonest business practices. However, if we are truly committed to living a life that reflects Christian values, we will seek to find ways to overcome our financial struggles in a way that is honorable and just. This may involve seeking help from a financial advisor, cutting back on unnecessary expenses, or finding ways to earn more income. Ultimately, it is not our financial situation that determines our worth as a person, but our heart and our actions.

As the apostle Paul wrote, "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want" (Philippians 4:11-12). This is the kind of contentment that comes from a deep trust in God, and a recognition that our worth and value come from Him, not from our financial situation. When we live with this kind of contentment, we are free to serve others, to give generously, and to live a life that reflects the character of Christ.
