Can I lose God's love?

The Bible tells us that God's love for us is a much safer subject to explore than our feelings about God. Our feelings can be unreliable, but God's love for us is unwavering and unshakeable (Psalm 138:8). We cannot lose God's love because it is not based on our performance or behavior, but rather on His character and nature. As the Bible says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness" (Jeremiah 31:3). This means that God's love for us is not dependent on our actions, but rather on His own heart and desire for us.

However, our relationship with God can be affected by our choices and actions. If we prioritize other things in our lives above our relationship with God, we can experience a diminished sense of love and connection with Him. This is not because God's love has decreased, but rather because our focus and priorities have shifted. As Jesus said, "Whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it" (Mark 8:35). This means that when we surrender our own will and desires to God, we can experience a deeper sense of love and connection with Him.

In times of pain, loss, or distress, it can be tempting to think that God's love has abandoned us. But this is not the case. God's love is not dependent on our circumstances, but rather on His own character and nature. As the Bible says, "God is love" (1 John 4:8). This means that God's love for us is a constant and unwavering reality, even in the midst of challenges and difficulties. We can trust in God's love and rely on it, even when our feelings and emotions may be uncertain or fluctuating. By surrendering our lives to God and prioritizing our relationship with Him, we can experience a deeper sense of love and connection with Him, even in the midst of adversity.
