Biblical Answer

The Bible teaches that when we lose everything, we actually find ourselves in Christ. This is a paradoxical teaching, but one that is rooted in the experience of many Christians. When we surrender our own will and self-seeking, we find peace, joy, and satisfaction. The Bible says, "Whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it" (Mark 8:35). This means that when we lose ourselves in following Christ, we actually find ourselves. True self-denial is true self-discovery.

The Bible also teaches that when we lose ourselves in Christ, we actually gain something much greater. This is evident in the words of the apostle Paul, who said, "I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things" (Philippians 2:7-8). Paul considered everything he had gained in life to be "garbage" compared to the value of knowing Christ. This is a radical perspective, but one that is rooted in the Bible's teaching on the importance of knowing Christ.

The Bible teaches that our earthly bodies will eventually decay and die, but that we will be raised to new life in Christ. This is evident in the words of Hebrews 1:10-12, which says, "They will perish, but you remain; they will all grow old like a garment... they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will never end." This teaches us that even though we may lose our earthly bodies, we will be transformed into a new and eternal life in Christ. This is a comfort to those who are facing loss and uncertainty, and a reminder that our true identity and value are found in Christ.
