Is God still with me even in the midst of suffering?
The Sovereignty of God in Suffering
God is over all things, and nothing happens apart from His knowledge and will. This means that even in the midst of suffering, God is still with us. He is not distant or disconnected from our pain. In fact, He is actively working to bring us through it, to use it for our good, and to bring us closer to Himself. This is not to say that God causes suffering, but rather that He sovereignly allows it to enter our lives in order to achieve His purposes.
The Purpose of Suffering
Suffering that appears pointless within our limited framework may be seen to have been justly permitted by God within His wider framework. This is because God's purposes often go beyond our understanding. He may allow suffering to achieve a greater good, to refine our character, or to bring us closer to Himself. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This means that even in the midst of suffering, we can trust that God is working for our good, even if we don't fully understand why.
Finding God in Suffering
So how can we find God in the midst of suffering? First, we must recognize that God is not distant or disconnected from our pain. He is actively working to bring us through it. Second, we must trust that God's purposes are greater than our own understanding. He may allow suffering to achieve a greater good, to refine our character, or to bring us closer to Himself. Finally, we must look to Jesus Christ, who suffered immeasurably for us, as our example and our comfort. As the Bible says, "He is the One Who suffered for you. He did this so that you could live. He doesn't ask you to believe because He is on a divine ego trip, but because He loves you so much" (1 Peter 4:19). May we find comfort and strength in Him, even in the midst of suffering.
