Can I still find happiness after losing everything?

The Elusiveness of Joy

True happiness comes from joy, not from pleasure. While pleasure and joy may seem similar, they are distinct concepts. Pleasure is often fleeting and can be based on temporary circumstances, whereas joy is a deeper, more profound feeling that can provide lasting happiness. The Bible teaches that joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and is available to believers in Christ. However, joy can be elusive, and it takes time and practice to cultivate it.

Coping with Suffering

In the midst of suffering, it's easy to feel like joy is impossible to find. However, the Bible offers a different perspective. It encourages believers to resist depression and to seek joy, even in the midst of hardship. This is because joy is not just a feeling, but a choice. By choosing to love others, even in the midst of suffering, we can find joy. As the Bible says, "Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy" (Psalm 126:5). This means that even in the midst of suffering, there is hope for joy in the future.

The Source of True Happiness

True happiness is not something that we can find on our own. Rather, it is a gift from God that is available to those who put their trust in Him. The Bible teaches that God created us to experience joy, and that it is a fundamental part of our human experience (Psalm 16:11). When we put the happiness of others ahead of our own, in response to what Jesus has done for us, we begin to experience true happiness. This is not just a future promise, but a present reality that can be experienced today. As the Bible says, "The joy of the Lord is our strength" (Nehemiah 8:10). By putting our trust in God and seeking to love others, we can find true happiness, even in the midst of suffering.
