The Illusion of Affordability

We often find ourselves trapped in a cycle of consumption, where we believe that we need more to live a fulfilling life. The world around us seems to scream that we must have the latest gadgets, the most luxurious cars, and the most extravagant vacations. But what does it truly mean to live? Is it to accumulate wealth and possessions, or is it to live a life of purpose and meaning? The Bible teaches us that true wealth lies not in our bank accounts, but in our relationship with God (Matthew 19:21-26). Jesus says, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35), and that "you cannot serve both God and money" (Luke 16:13). When we prioritize our financial security above our spiritual well-being, we become slaves to our own desires, rather than servants to the Lord.

The Cost of Living for Ourselves

When we say that we can't afford to live, what we're really saying is that we can't afford to give up our own desires and ambitions. We're unwilling to sacrifice our own comfort and security for the sake of living a life of faith. But the truth is, we can't take our wealth with us when we die, but we will take our souls with us (Matthew 6:19-21). The Bible teaches us that we should be content with what we have, and that "we have been given everything we need for life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3). When we live for ourselves, we become like the rich fool who thought he could store up treasures for himself, but ended up losing everything (Luke 12:16-21). On the other hand, when we live for God, we become like the poor man who trusted in God and was blessed (Luke 12:22-31).

Living for God's Provision

So, what does it mean to live for God's provision? It means trusting in His sovereignty and goodness, and recognizing that He is our ultimate provider. When we surrender our desires and ambitions to God, we open ourselves up to His guidance and provision. We can trust that He will provide for our needs, and that we will be blessed beyond our wildest dreams (Matthew 6:25-34). As Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). When we live for God's provision, we experience true freedom and joy, and we are able to live a life of purpose and meaning. We are no longer slaves to our own desires, but servants to the Lord, living for His glory and His kingdom. "For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances" (Philippians 4:11). This is the life of faith, and this is the life that brings true fulfillment and happiness. By living for God's provision, we are able to live a life that is truly rich in every sense of the word.
