Biblical Answer

The question of why God is silent when we scream for help is a common one. However, the Bible teaches that God is not silent. He has spoken to us through His Word, and we can trust in His sovereignty and goodness. In Psalm 83:1, the psalmist asks God to speak and not be silent, indicating that He is not always audible to us. As C. S. Lewis said, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world." This means that God's silence can be a call to us to listen more closely to His voice.

We may feel like God is not hearing our prayers, but this is not always the case. God is always listening and answering our prayers, even if the answer is not what we want to hear. In Matthew 7:7-8, Jesus teaches us to ask, seek, and knock, and that God will give us what we need. However, we must also be sensitive to God's voice and not quench it by our own stubbornness or lack of faith. As the Bible says, "Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God" (Ephesians 4:30). God's voice is gentle, and we must learn to listen to it in order to discern His will.

In times of suffering or crisis, it can be tempting to cry out to God in frustration or anger. However, this is not the right approach. Instead, we should seek God with a humble and contrite heart, as the psalmist did in Psalm 51. We should also remember that God is always working, even when we don't see it. As the Bible says, "The Lord has promised to fight for us" (Deuteronomy 1:30). We can trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when we don't understand what is happening. By seeking God with a humble heart and trusting in His goodness, we can learn to listen to His voice and discern His will.
