Your Question:

can i still trust god when bad things happen?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with trusting God when bad things happen. It's natural to wonder if God is still good and loving when we face difficulties. But the truth is, God is always good and loving, even when we don't understand what's happening. He says in Isaiah 50:10-11, "Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God." This means we can trust God, even when we can't see what He's doing.

It's easy to trust God when things are going well, but it's when things get tough that our trust is really tested. As the passage says, "Do I trust at all in the flesh? Or have I learned to go beyond all confidence in myself and other people of God?" (emphasis mine). This is a question we all need to ask ourselves. Do we trust God, or do we trust in our own abilities and circumstances? When we trust in God, we can face any situation with confidence, knowing that He is working everything out for our good.

As I reflect on my own life, I've learned that trusting God is not about having all the answers or understanding what's happening. It's about trusting in His goodness and love, even when we don't see it. As the passage says, "God is infinitely wise and we are not, and it pleases him when we have faith to trust his wisdom even when we do not understand what he is doing." (1 Peter 4:19) This is a hard lesson to learn, but it's one that has brought me peace and comfort in the midst of difficult times.
