Biblical Answer

The question of why God allows bad things to happen is a common one, and it's natural to wonder if there's any point to having faith if God doesn't seem to intervene. However, the Bible teaches that God is a sovereign God who is always working to bring about good, even in the midst of evil. This is known as the theology of hope, where instead of asking why God doesn't do something about evil, we act to transform that evil. Faith has become action, which in turn helps to bring about the object of that faith.

It's also important to remember that God is not a God of guarantees, but rather a God of hope. He wants us to trust him, even when we don't understand why things are happening. This is because God's ways are not our ways, and his thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). We can't fully understand why God allows certain things to happen, but we can trust that he has good reasons for everything. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). So even though we may not understand why God allows bad things to happen, we can trust that he is working for our good.

Ultimately, faith is not just about believing certain propositions or having a certain set of beliefs. It's about trusting God, even when we don't understand why things are happening. It's about having a personal relationship with God and trusting him to work out his plan for our lives. As the Bible says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1). So even when we're faced with difficult circumstances, we can trust that God is working for our good, and that our faith will ultimately be rewarded.
