Can I really trust that God is working everything out for my good?
The Paradox of Trusting God
Trusting God means that we are willing to let go of our own control and surrender to His sovereignty. This can be a difficult concept to grasp, especially when things seem to be going wrong. We often want to take matters into our own hands and try to fix problems ourselves, but trusting God means that we need to let go of our own thinking and rely on His goodness and wisdom. As the Bible says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). This is the essence of trusting God - surrendering our own control and relying on His goodness and wisdom.
The Assurance of God's Goodness
But what about when things don't seem to be going well? How can we trust God when it seems like He's not working everything out for our good? The Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This verse reminds us that God is always working for our good, even when we can't see it. We must trust that God's way is right, even when it doesn't make sense to us. As the psalmist says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand" (Isaiah 41:10).
The Reality of Suffering
We must also acknowledge that trusting God doesn't mean that we won't suffer or experience difficulties. In fact, the Bible says that we will face trials and tribulations, but that we should not be afraid because God is with us (Matthew 24:6). Trusting God means that we are willing to face the unknown with faith and confidence, knowing that He is always working for our good. As the apostle Paul says, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us" (Romans 8:18). We must trust that God is working everything out for our good, even in the midst of suffering and difficulty.
