Understanding Independence and Dependence

When we lose our independence, it can be a challenging and potentially painful experience. Independence is a natural part of growing up and becoming self-sufficient. However, as we mature, we may find ourselves in situations where we must surrender our independence and become dependent on others. This can be difficult for us because we value our autonomy and freedom. However, we must remember that our dependence on God is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of our trust and surrender to Him.

The Dangers of Isolation and Independence

When we choose to isolate ourselves and become independent, we risk missing out on the blessings and benefits of community and relationship. We are created to be in relationship with others and to be dependent on God. When we prioritize our independence, we may feel a sense of security and control, but we are actually walking away from the very things that bring us life and joy. As the Bible says, "It is better to have a friend and be lonely than to be a lover of independence and be hated" (Proverbs 18:1). We must be careful not to use our independence as an excuse to withdraw from others and to prioritize our own desires above all else.

Surrendering to God's Sovereignty

When we lose our independence, we are forced to surrender to God's sovereignty. This can be a difficult and humbling experience, but it is also a liberating one. When we surrender our independence and become dependent on God, we are no longer controlled by our own desires and will. We are free to live our lives according to God's plan and purpose, rather than our own. As the Bible says, "I will be what I will be" (Exodus 3:14). This statement speaks to God's sovereignty and His ability to be and do whatever He wants. When we surrender our independence and become dependent on God, we are able to experience this same kind of freedom and joy. We are no longer limited by our own desires and will, but are able to live our lives according to God's plan and purpose. This is a beautiful and liberating thing, and it is something that we should all strive for.
