Your Question:
How am I going to take care of myself?
Answer:
I'm glad you're thinking about taking care of yourself. As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with the idea of self-care, especially when they're feeling broken or lost. The truth is, we can't save ourselves. We need help, and that help comes from outside of ourselves. I've learned that when I'm feeling overwhelmed, I need to ask the Lord to give me Christ-awareness, and He will steady me until I'm complete in Him. It's not about putting on a mask or pretending to be someone I'm not. It's about being honest with myself and others about my true nature. I've learned that when I'm not feeling friendly or kind, I need to put on a friendly manner and behave as if I were a nicer person than I actually am. And you know what? It works! I start to feel friendlier and kinder, and it becomes a part of who I am. As a husband and father, I've also learned the importance of taking care of myself so that I can be there for my family. My wife Susan and I have been married for 19 years, and our kids Joshua and Rebecca are growing up so fast. I want to be there for them, to guide them and support them as they navigate life's challenges. And I know that I can only do that if I'm taking care of myself, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
