The Struggle of Following Jesus

Many people who choose to follow Jesus experience a range of difficulties and challenges. This is not unique to Christianity; other faiths and life paths also come with their own set of obstacles. However, the context of Christianity and the nature of following Jesus make the challenges particularly significant.

Why Did You Have to Go Through This?

The question of why someone has to go through difficulties after choosing to follow Jesus is a complex one. It's natural to ask why God allows suffering and hardship to occur, especially when we're trying to live a life that honors Him. However, it's essential to understand that following Jesus is not a guarantee of an easy or trouble-free life. In fact, Jesus Himself said, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first" (John 15:18). This doesn't mean that God is punishing us or that we're not doing enough; it simply means that we're living in a world that is opposed to God's ways.

Understanding the Purpose of Trials

Trials and difficulties can serve several purposes in our lives as followers of Jesus. They can help us grow in our faith, deepen our understanding of God's character, and develop perseverance and trust in Him. James 1:2-4 says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." While it's not always easy to see the purpose of our struggles, we can trust that God is working everything out for our good, even when it doesn't feel like it (Romans 8:28). As we navigate the challenges that come with following Jesus, we can hold onto the promise that He is with us, guiding us, and refining us into the people He created us to be.
