Understanding the Nature of Faith

Faith is not just about believing certain propositions, but it's more than belief; it's action. It's trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we don't understand why bad things happen. Faith means believing in God's plan, even when it doesn't make sense to us. The Bible says that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). We can't fully comprehend God's wisdom, but we can trust that He has good reasons for everything.

The Importance of Trust

Trust in God is the realization that He has suffered on account of evil. He knows the pain and suffering we experience, and He wants us to trust Him, even when we don't understand. The Bible says that God makes no mistakes and has good reasons for everything (Romans 8:28; Ephesians 1:11). We may not fully understand why God allows bad things to happen, but we can trust that He is working for our good. Even in the midst of suffering, God can bring good out of it (Romans 8:28). We must learn to trust God's goodness and sovereignty, even when it's hard.

The Cost of Faith

Faith requires us to raise our view of God, not lower it. We must trust that God is good and sovereign, even when bad things happen. It's easier to lower our view of God than to raise our faith to such a height. But when we do, we can experience the blessing of God in our lives. We must be willing to trust God's plan, even when it doesn't make sense to us. As Jay and Katherine Wolf show us, even in the midst of suffering, we can praise the Lord and trust in His goodness. That's the kind of faith we need to cultivate in our lives.
