The Distant God: Understanding the Disconnect

The sense of God feeling distant is a common experience for many people. This feeling can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, our perception of God's nearness or remoteness is often influenced by our own spiritual state. When we are disconnected from God, we may feel a sense of distance or separation. This can be due to various reasons such as sin, unrepented habits, or a lack of prayer and Bible study. Secondly, our understanding of God's nature and character can also contribute to this feeling. If we view God as a distant, unapproachable figure, we may feel that He is not accessible to us.

The Problem of Unfamiliarity

One of the main reasons why God may seem distant is because we don't really know Him. Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God, had to understand fully every sin and sorrow that human beings could experience. This aspect of His nature makes Him seem unfamiliar to us. When we see this aspect of Him, we realize that we really don't know Him. We don't recognize His character, His heart, or His ways. This unfamiliarity can lead to feelings of distance or remoteness. Furthermore, our own sin and rebellion against God can also create a sense of distance. When we rebel against God, we may feel that He is not interested in our lives or that He is not willing to help us.

Overcoming the Sense of Distance

To overcome the sense of distance between us and God, we need to cultivate a deeper understanding of His nature and character. We need to see God as a loving Father who is always present and available to us. We need to recognize that He is a person who is capable of empathy and compassion. We need to understand that His desire is to have a close and intimate relationship with us. To achieve this, we need to focus our minds and hearts upward, consistently seeking to know and understand God's Word. We need to be willing to listen to His voice and to obey His commands. By doing so, we can develop a deeper sense of connection with God, and He will no longer seem distant to us. Instead, we will experience His presence and guidance in our lives.
