Understanding the Distance between God and Humanity

The sense of God's distance from humanity can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, God's nature is beyond human comprehension, making it difficult for us to understand and relate to Him. As the Bible states, "His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts than our thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9). This implies that God's perspective and intentions are not always clear to us, leading to feelings of disconnection and distance.

The Problem of Spiritual Blindness

Another reason for the sense of God's distance is spiritual blindness. This can manifest in various ways, such as a lack of spiritual understanding, a hardened heart, or a preoccupation with worldly concerns. When we are not seeking God or not open to His presence, we may feel like He is distant or absent. Jesus' words in Matthew 13:15 come to mind, "For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes otherwise they might see, and hear, and understand with their heart and turn." This spiritual blindness can prevent us from recognizing God's presence and experiencing His nearness.

The Solution: Seeking God with an Open Heart

To overcome the sense of God's distance, we must seek Him with an open heart and mind. This involves cultivating a consistent relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and worship. We must also be willing to let go of our preconceptions and be open to God's revelation of Himself. As Jesus said, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7-8). By seeking God with an open heart, we can begin to experience His nearness and understand His love and presence in our lives.
