Praying According to God's Will

To pray according to God's will, we must first understand that prayer is not a means to impose our will upon God, but rather a way to subordinate our will to His. We must seek God's will and guidance in our prayers, rather than trying to bend His will to ours. Jesus teaches us to pray, "Your will be done" (Matt. 6:10), and he himself gives us an example by praying, "Not as I will, but as you will" (Matt. 26:39). We should have great confidence that God will answer our prayer when we ask Him for something that accords with a specific promise or command of Scripture.

Seeking God's Will

When we seek to pray according to God's will, we must first acknowledge that we do not always know what His will is. In such cases, we should ask Him for deeper understanding and then pray for what seems best to us, giving reasons to the Lord why, in our present understanding, this is what we believe is best. We should also recognize that God's will is not always clear, and we must be willing to accept it rather than trying to alter it through prayer. As Jesus prayed, "Yet not what I will, but what you will" (Matt. 26:39). We must also come to the place of enjoying prayer and eagerly seeking time to pray, so that we can have a deeper understanding of God's will.

Praying with Confidence

We can pray with confidence when we seek God's will and guidance in our prayers. When we pray according to God's will, we can be assured that God will answer our prayer. We should pray with the confidence that God will keep His promise and direct the affairs of our life to the full accomplishment of His purposes. We should also pray with the understanding that God's will is not always clear, and we must be willing to accept it rather than trying to alter it through prayer. By praying according to God's will, we can demonstrate that we are as concerned as God is that His will be done, and we can trust that God will guide us in our decisions and actions.
