Understanding God's Will

To pray according to God's will, it is essential to understand what His will is in the first place. As Jesus teaches, we should pray "Your will be done" (Matt. 6:10). This means that we should seek to align our will with God's, rather than trying to impose our own will on Him. The Bible encourages us to ask, "Lord, what is your will?" (Rom. 12:2) and to seek guidance in prayer. A child of God is confident that God answers prayer, and we should be restfully certain that He will answer our prayer when we ask for something that accords with a specific promise or command of Scripture.

Praying in Alignment with God's Will

When praying, we should not try to make God's will conform to ours, but rather pray as Jesus did, "Not my will, but thine, be done" (Matt. 26:39). We should have great confidence that God will answer our prayer when we ask for something that accords with a specific promise or command of Scripture. For example, if we are praying for healing and we have a promise from Scripture that God heals, we can be confident that He will answer our prayer. On the other hand, if we are praying for something that is not clearly stated in Scripture, we should be more cautious and ask, "Is this according to Your will, Lord?" We should also be aware that God's will may not always be what we expect or want.

Seeking God's Will in Decision-Making

When making important decisions, we should pause to pray and seek God's will. We should not try to make decisions based on our own will, but rather seek guidance from God. We should ask, "Lord, what is your will in this situation?" and seek to understand His perspective. We should also be aware that God's will may not always be what we expect or want, and we should be willing to submit to His will even if it is difficult or challenging. By seeking God's will in decision-making, we can ensure that our decisions align with His plan and purpose for our lives. Ultimately, prayer is not just about getting what we want, but about aligning our will with God's and seeking His guidance and direction in all aspects of life.
