Praying According to God's Will

Praying according to God's will is a crucial aspect of effective prayer. It requires us to understand God's will and align our prayers with it. The Bible teaches us to pray, "Your will be done" (Matt. 6:10), indicating that our primary concern should be to submit our will to God's. We must recognize that prayer is not a means of imposing our will upon God, but rather a way of subordinating our will to His.

Understanding God's Will

So, how do we know what God's will is when we pray? The Bible provides clear guidance on this matter. When the matter we are praying about is covered in a passage of Scripture that gives us a command or a direct promise, we can be confident that God's will is clear. For instance, if we are praying for healing, and we know that God promises to heal those who seek Him (Psalm 103:2-3), we can be confident that His will is to heal. In such cases, we simply need to submit our will to His and pray with confidence.

Praying with Humility and Obedience

However, when God's will is not explicitly stated in Scripture, we must pray with humility and obedience. We should ask, "Lord, what is your will?" and seek guidance from God. We should not try to impose our own will, but rather submit to God's. Jesus' prayer in the garden of Gethsemane is a perfect example of this (Matt. 26:39). He prayed, "Not my will, but thine, be done." We should follow His example and pray with humility, seeking to understand and align ourselves with God's will. By doing so, we will experience the joy and effectiveness of praying according to God's will.
