The Essence of Faith

Faith, as the Bible teaches it, is faith in God coming against everything that contradicts Him. It is a faith that says, "I will remain true to God's character whatever He may do." The highest and greatest expression of faith in the Bible is found in Romans 10:17, which states, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." Faith, which means trust and confidence, has to be based on something! God never asks for blind faith; rather, He tells us to pursue biblical faith, which is based on His promises and His character. This means that faith is not just a feeling or a wish, but a confident trust in God's power and character.

The Object of Faith

The object of faith is God Himself, and it is a personal trust in the living God through the living Christ. Faith rests its confidence in the truth of biblical narratives, not on the critical acumen of the historian, but on the unfailing trustworthiness of God. In other words, faith is not just about knowing facts or doctrines, but about trusting in God's character and will. This is why the Bible says, "Faith works by love" (Galatians 5:6), and "Peace be to the brethren, and love, with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thessalonians 3:16). Faith is a personal and voluntary act that involves trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty.
