What's the point of trying when it feels like nothing matters?
When we feel like nothing matters, it can be challenging to muster the motivation to try. This feeling of hopelessness can stem from a sense of emptiness or dissatisfaction with life. However, it's essential to recognize that this attitude can be superficial and may be a result of the "herd instinct" or a desire to fit in. As the Bible says, "I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do is what I do" (Romans 7:19). This is a common struggle that many people face, but it's not a reason to give up.
The key to overcoming this feeling of hopelessness is to understand why we feel this way. Is it because we're seeking fulfillment in the wrong things, such as relationships or material possessions? Or is it because we're not living a life that reflects our values and priorities? As the Bible says, "There is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, to be content in his labor, and to take pleasure in the fruits of his hands" (Ecclesiastes 3:13). When we find our fulfillment in God and live a life that reflects His values, we can experience a sense of purpose and meaning that transcends our circumstances.
In order to overcome the feeling of hopelessness, we need to focus on building margin into our lives and committing to our values and priorities. This means being intentional about what we do and don't do, and making decisions that align with our goals and values. As the Bible says, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans" (Proverbs 16:3). By committing to our values and priorities, we can experience a sense of purpose and meaning that will help us overcome feelings of hopelessness and emptiness.
