The Nature of Marriage in Heaven

The Bible teaches that there will be no marriage in heaven as we understand it on earth. In Matthew 22:30, Jesus says, "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven." This means that the institution of marriage as we know it will not exist in heaven. The angels in heaven do not marry, and this is the state that believers will be in after the resurrection.

The Purpose of Marriage on Earth

While there will be no marriage in heaven, marriage on earth serves a purpose. It is a shadow of the greater reality of Christ's marriage to his church (Ephesians 5:31-32). Marriage is also a means of expressing our love and commitment to one another, and it can be a way of fulfilling God's purpose for our lives. However, our ultimate joy and satisfaction should not come from our marital relationship, but from our relationship with God.

The Reality of Heaven

In heaven, we will experience a new and greater reality, one that is beyond our current understanding of marriage. We will be like the angels in heaven, and our relationships with God will outlive our earthly marriages. This does not mean that our experiences and relationships on earth are meaningless, but rather that they are a preparation for the greater reality that awaits us in heaven. As we walk with God and seek to please Him, we can experience a deep sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that goes beyond our earthly relationships.
