Managing Stress from a Biblical Perspective

Stress is a universal experience that can affect anyone, regardless of their background or circumstances. As Christians, we must recognize that stress is not a sign of weakness, but rather an opportunity to trust in God's sovereignty and provision. In 1 Peter 5:7, we are encouraged to "cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." This means that we can entrust our worries and concerns to God, knowing that He is able to handle them.

To manage stress, we must first acknowledge that we are not in control. As the Bible says, "We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). We must recognize that our circumstances are not the cause of our stress, but rather a symptom of a deeper issue - our lack of trust in God. By focusing on God's sovereignty and provision, we can learn to breathe deeply and trust in His goodness, even in the midst of chaos. As Psalm 23:4 says, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me."

In addition to trusting in God's sovereignty, we must also learn to prioritize our time and energy. As the Bible says, "Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). This means that we must be intentional about how we use our time and energy, focusing on things that are truly important and true. By doing so, we can avoid the stress of overcommitting and learn to say "no" to things that do not align with God's will. As Proverbs 31:27 says, "She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness." By trusting in God's sovereignty and prioritizing our time and energy, we can learn to manage stress and live a life that reflects God's glory.
