Can I still trust anyone?
The question of whether we can trust anyone is a complex one, especially when we consider the idea of trusting in God. On the one hand, if we trust in God, we must be willing to hand over control to Him and trust in His sovereignty. This means that we must be willing to let go of our own desires and expectations and trust in His plan. However, if we do not trust in God, we may feel a sense of uncertainty and insecurity, which can lead us to question the trustworthiness of others. This is because, if we do not trust in God, we may be more likely to rely on ourselves and others to meet our needs, rather than trusting in God's provision.
But, how can we truly trust in God? According to the Bible, trust in God is not based on evidence or probability, but rather on a sure confidence in His character and nature. This means that we must be willing to go beyond what we can see or understand and trust in God's goodness and sovereignty. As the Bible says, "According to your faith let it be to you" (Matthew 9:29). This means that our level of trust in God is directly related to our faith in Him. The more we trust in God, the more we can trust in others and in ourselves. On the other hand, if we do not trust in God, we may struggle with trust in others and in ourselves.
So, how can we cultivate trust in God? According to the Bible, trust in God is not something that we can earn or merit, but rather something that we can learn to do through practice and experience. As Brother Lawrence wrote, "We build our faith by the practice of the presence of God" (see Psalm 2:11-14). When we make a conscious effort to talk to God and trust in His goodness and sovereignty, we can begin to build our faith and trust in Him. This, in turn, can lead us to trust in others and in ourselves, and to live a life of confidence and security. As the Bible says, "I trust you; I know your heart is gold" (Matthew 17:20). This means that trust in God is not something that we can achieve on our own, but rather something that we can learn to do through our relationship with Him.
