The Illusion of Possession

When we say that God has to take everything away from us, we're implying that we possess things that belong to Him. This perspective creates an illusion of ownership, where we think we're in control of our lives, our careers, our relationships, and our desires. However, the Bible teaches us that God created the universe and everything in it, including us (Psalm 24:1, Acts 17:24). This means that He is the rightful owner of everything, and we are merely stewards of what He has entrusted to us.

The Reality of God's Sovereignty

The reality is that God is sovereign over all creation, and He is not bound by our desires or circumstances. He is the one who gives and takes away (Job 1:21), and His decisions are not based on our feelings or outcomes. When we try to hold onto things that belong to Him, we're essentially trying to control the uncontrollable. This is where the concept of surrender comes in. We must be willing to let go of our attachments and trust that God is working everything out for our good (Romans 8:28).

The Freedom of Surrender

When we surrender our possessions, desires, and attachments to God, we're not losing control; we're gaining freedom. We're allowing Him to work in our lives, to guide us, and to lead us into a deeper relationship with Him. This is not a one-time event but a continuous process of surrender, where we yield to God's sovereignty and trust in His goodness. As the Bible says, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). By surrendering our attachments and trusting in God's sovereignty, we can experience the freedom and rest that He offers.
