Your Question:

Why does God allow chronic pain to continue?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've had the privilege of walking with many people through the valley of chronic pain. And I've come to realize that God allows chronic pain to continue for a number of reasons. First and foremost, pain often serves as a wake-up call or reminder of our human brokenness and alienation from God. It's a reminder that we are not self-sufficient, that we need God's help and guidance in our lives. As the Bible says, "Pain and suffering are not the result of God's absence, but rather the result of our own sin and rebellion against God" (Psalm 38:3).

But why would God allow us to experience such pain and suffering? One reason is that it gives us an opportunity to seek outside assistance and turn to God in repentance and faith. As the Bible says, "The pain of suffering is not the problem, but rather the seeming indifference of God" (Job 1:21). When we're in pain, we're forced to confront our own limitations and weaknesses, and to turn to God for help. And it's in those moments of desperation that we're most likely to turn to God and seek His guidance and comfort.

Ultimately, God allows chronic pain to continue because it's a reminder that we are not yet in heaven. In this life, we will experience suffering and pain, but in eternity, those sufferings will be dwarfed by the joys of eternal life. As the Bible says, "The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18). So even in the midst of chronic pain, we can take comfort in the fact that God is working all things together for our good, and that one day, we will be free from pain and suffering forever.
