The Tension Between Freedom and Security

When life gets busy, we often find ourselves facing a difficult decision: do we choose freedom or security? On one hand, freedom is a cherished value that allows us to live as we see fit, to make our own choices, and to pursue our own dreams. On the other hand, security provides a sense of stability and predictability, which can be especially appealing when things get uncertain.

Defining Freedom

From a biblical perspective, freedom is not just a general concept, but a specifically spiritual and moral one. It is freedom from sin and freedom to live as God intended human beings to live. This means that true freedom is not just about making choices, but about making choices that align with God's will. As the Bible says, "I have set before you life and death: therefore choose life" (Deuteronomy 30:19). In other words, freedom is not just about what we can do, but about what we should do.

Choosing Between Freedom and Security

So, how do we choose between freedom and security when life gets busy? The answer is not a simple one, but it begins with understanding that true freedom is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we are born again, we are free to live as God intended, and this freedom is the most secure thing possible because it has Almighty God in and behind it. As the Bible says, "For one who is born again, it is easier to live without the world than to live without God" (2 Corinthians 4:18). In other words, true freedom is found in a relationship with God, not in the freedom to make our own choices. When we choose to follow God, we are not limited by our circumstances, but empowered by His presence in our lives. This is the key to choosing between freedom and security: we must prioritize our relationship with God above all else. When we do, we will find that true freedom is not just a choice, but a reality that transforms every area of our lives.
