Your Question:
What do I do when my whole life is being turned upside down?
Answer:
When my whole life is being turned upside down, I find myself drawn to the words of 1 Corinthians 10:13, which reminds me that even in the midst of great challenges, I am not immune to temptation. It's easy to think that because I've been through tough times before, I'm less likely to stumble now. But the truth is, I'm just as vulnerable as ever. As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with feelings of depression and isolation. They may turn away from others, or towards their beds, trying to escape the pain. But I believe that's not the right response. Instead, I encourage them to turn towards God, to seek Him in their darkness. As the Psalmist wrote, "You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word" (Psalm 119:114). When I'm feeling overwhelmed, I try to focus on God's goodness and faithfulness, and to seek His guidance and strength. In times of turmoil, I also try to reflect on the past victories God has given me. I think about the times when He carried me through difficult situations, and how He used those experiences to shape me into the person I am today. By remembering His faithfulness, I'm reminded that I can trust Him to see me through whatever challenges I'm facing now. And that gives me the strength and courage to keep moving forward, even when my life feels like it's being turned upside down.
