The Point of Running a Business: A Biblical Perspective

As Christians, we are called to live out our faith in all aspects of life, including our work and business endeavors. When it comes to running a business, it's natural to wonder about the point of it all, especially when faced with the reality of failure. From a biblical perspective, the point of running a business is not solely about achieving success or avoiding failure, but rather about living out our purpose and values as followers of Jesus Christ.

A Proactive Approach to Failure

The Bible teaches us to be proactive about handling failure by asking God to help us react by faith to any future failures (Proverbs 3:5-6). This means that we must not only pray, but also take practical steps to apply a new strategy to the next failure. This could involve examining ourselves before God to see if our life is measuring up to His standard (Psalm 139:23-24), taking initiative in our desire to learn and grow (1 Corinthians 10:12), and persevering through challenges and setbacks (James 1:2-4). By doing so, we can learn vital lessons from our failures and become stronger, using those lessons to construct an upward road to success.

A Biblical Perspective on Success and Failure

In the Bible, we see examples of individuals who experienced both success and failure, yet remained faithful to God. For instance, David, a man after God's own heart, experienced failure and defeat, yet remained committed to God's will (1 Samuel 17:1-58). Similarly, the apostle Paul, a great example of a successful Christian leader, experienced failure and setbacks, yet continued to press on, relying on God's strength and guidance (Philippians 4:13). From these examples, we learn that success and failure are not the ultimate measures of our worth or value as Christians. Rather, it's our faithfulness to God and our commitment to living out our values and purpose that truly matter. By keeping our eyes fixed on God and His plan for our lives, we can navigate the ups and downs of business and life with confidence and hope.
