Why does God care about money?!

God's Perspective on Money

God cares about money because it reveals our heart's attitude towards Him. The Bible warns that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). This is because money can become an idol, distracting us from our relationship with God and leading us to prioritize material possessions over spiritual things. As the psalmist says, "You will not lie down until you have made your nest on high; there you will lay your gold and gold from Ophir" (Psalm 68:13). This shows that even those who are wealthy can become consumed by their love of money.

The Purpose of Tithing

Tithing is not about giving to God because we expect something in return, but rather because we want to honor and obey Him. When we give generously from our hearts, we are reflecting God's character and demonstrating our trust in His provision. As Jesus said, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). By giving to God, we are acknowledging that He is our ultimate treasure and that our hearts belong to Him. Tithing is not about earning God's favor, but about showing our love and devotion to Him.

The Danger of Loving Money

The love of money can lead to a life of spiritual emptiness and idolatry. As the Bible says, "He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income" (Ecclesiastes 5:10). This is because money cannot satisfy our deepest longings and desires, which can only be fulfilled through a relationship with God. When we prioritize money over God, we are essentially saying that we do not trust Him to provide for our needs. This can lead to a life of anxiety, worry, and discontentment, rather than a life of peace, joy, and fulfillment that comes from trusting in God's goodness and provision.
