The Challenge of Feeling God's Absence

When it feels like God is absent, it's natural to wonder if we've lost our faith. The Bible acknowledges that even the most devoted followers of God can experience a sense of aloneness, as seen in Psalm 88, where the composer expresses a deep longing for God who seems absent in the light of persecution by enemies and a disappointment with oneself. This feeling of absence can be overwhelming, leading us to question God's existence or our own faith. However, the Bible reminds us that faith is not about feeling God's presence, but about knowing that we walk before the God who hears (Hebrews 11:6).

Developing Faith in the Absence

To overcome the feeling of God's absence, we must focus on developing our faith through personal time with God. This involves establishing a prayer-relationship with Him, where we speak to Him and He speaks to us in an intimate basis. We must also commit to learning more of God's Word, so we can know Him better and obey Him more fully. As we read and apply Scripture, we'll gain a deeper understanding of God's character and promises, which will strengthen our faith. Furthermore, we must pray specifically about any obstacle in our life, asking for Christ to enlighten us and give us strength to overcome the roadblocks. By doing so, we'll move closer to the heart of God, and our faith will automatically become more solid.

Faith in the Face of Uncertainty

Faith is not about having all the answers or feeling God's presence; it's about knowing that God will do something, even when we don't know what He will do. As the Bible says, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). When we're faced with uncertainty or a sense of God's absence, we must look to Scripture for guidance and encouragement. We can also pray boldly, trusting that God will answer us, and that our faith will be strengthened in the process. By doing so, we'll learn to trust God more fully, even in the midst of uncertainty, and our faith will become more steadfast and unshakeable.
