Your Question:
Does God really care about us?
Answer:
As a pastor, I've had the privilege of studying Scripture and understanding God's character. What I've learned is that God cares about us in a very personal way. He's not just a distant deity who created us and then abandoned us to our own devices. No, God is a loving Father who desires a relationship with us. He wants us to be creatures of a certain kind, related to Him in a certain way, and to each other in a certain way. God's care for us is not just about our actions, but about our being. He wants us to be the kind of people who reflect His character and image. He wants us to be creatures of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). When we're right with God, we'll inevitably be right with each other, just like the spokes of a wheel are fitted rightly into the hub and the rim. But what about when we mess up? When we sin and disobey God? Does He still care about us then? The answer is yes. God's love and care for us is not dependent on our performance. He loves us because He is love, and He wants us to experience that love and be transformed by it. As the psalmist says, "O Jehovah our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth!" (Psalm 8:1). God's name is excellent, and His love for us is excellent, too.
