The Question of Testing God

Is God just testing me? This question may arise when we face difficulties or challenges in our lives. We may wonder if God is putting us through a test, and if so, why. The Bible provides insight into this question, suggesting that God is not testing us, but rather we are testing Him.

The Nature of Testing

In the Bible, the word "test" is a neutral word in Hebrew, meaning to try or prove something. When the Israelites faced difficulties in the wilderness, they thought they were testing God, but in reality, God was testing them. This highlights the idea that we often attribute our own actions to God's actions, when in fact, we are the ones testing Him. When we face challenges, we may question God's goodness or sovereignty, but this is not a test from God, but rather a test of our own faith.

The Purpose of Trials

The Bible teaches that trials and challenges are opportunities for our faith to grow stronger. When we face problems, we have a choice: we can either trust God and grow in our faith, or we can doubt and weaken our faith. The testing of our faith produces patience and maturity, allowing us to know whether our faith is real or not. As Jesus said, "Blessed is he who is not offended because of Me" (Matthew 11:6). This means that we should have confidence in Jesus and trust Him, even in the midst of trials and challenges. By doing so, we can grow in our faith and develop a deeper relationship with God.
