A Loss of Purpose and Direction

Losing a business can be a devastating experience, and it's natural to wonder why it had to happen. The Bible teaches that we were created by God to create, and when we don't create in a thoughtful and worshipful manner, we can feel unfulfilled and purposeless. In my own life, I experienced a loss of purpose and direction when I made some terrible financial decisions early in my ministry. However, I learned that God's purpose for me wasn't to perfect me or make me a trophy in His showcase, but to use me for His glory.

A New Path to Purpose

When we lose our business or sense of purpose, we may need to update our life plan and take a new path to achieve our goals. This can be a difficult and humbling experience, but it's an opportunity to learn and grow. As J.I. Packer says, "He knows the way He taketh, even if for the moment we do not." God may lead us out of a difficult situation in a way that we don't fully understand, but we can trust that He has a plan to bring us to a place of purpose and fulfillment. In my own experience, I learned to let go of my own ambitions and seek God's call and direction, and it was liberating and motivating.

Finding Purpose in God's Plan

Ultimately, our purpose in life is not to achieve our own goals or ambitions, but to fulfill God's purpose for us. As Psalm 20:4 says, "May He grant you according to your heart's desire, and fulfill all your purpose." When we seek to fulfill God's purpose, we can experience a sense of joy and fulfillment that goes beyond our own achievements. By trusting in God's plan and following His lead, we can find our way back to a sense of purpose and direction, even in the midst of uncertainty and change. As I reflect on my own experience, I am reminded that God's purpose is not to perfect me, but to use me for His glory, and that is a truly liberating and motivating thought.
