The Sovereignty of God in Suffering

Why did God take my loved one from me? This question has puzzled many a believer, and it is natural to wonder why God would take someone we love away from us. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all creation, including the events of our lives. However, this does not mean that God is the direct cause of suffering or evil. Instead, He is the One Who sustains and governs the universe, and He works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

A Different Perspective on Suffering

When we suffer, it is natural to ask God why He allowed it to happen. However, we must be careful not to assume that God owes us a life free from pain or suffering. As Christians, we know that God loves us and wants us to be with Him forever in heaven. He made us because He loves us, and He desires a personal relationship with us. Our suffering may be a result of our own choices or the choices of others, but it can also be an opportunity for us to draw closer to God and to experience His love and presence in a deeper way.

The Value of Our Pain

Our pain and suffering may seem like a waste, but they can be valuable in God's eyes. He can use our experiences to draw us closer to Himself and to teach us valuable lessons about His love and character. As the Psalmist wrote, "He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me" (Psalm 91:14). Our pain may be real, but it is not the final word. God's love and redemption are greater than our suffering, and He can use it to bring us closer to Himself. As we trust in Him and seek to understand His sovereignty in our lives, we can find comfort and peace in the midst of pain and suffering.
