The Problem of Suffering: Why Do We Have to Lose the Use of Our Body?

The Bible teaches that suffering is a natural part of life in a fallen world. As Christians, we must recognize that our bodies are subject to weakness and decay due to sin. The Bible says, "For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead" (1 Corinthians 15:21). This means that death and suffering are consequences of Adam's sin, and our bodies are affected by this sin. The Bible also says, "The whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now" (Romans 8:22), indicating that the entire creation, including our bodies, is subject to suffering.

The Bible teaches that our bodies are not the most important thing. In fact, Jesus said, "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" (Mark 8:36). Our bodies are temporary and will eventually die. The Bible says, "It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). Our bodies are not the key to our existence or our happiness. Instead, our relationship with God is what truly matters. The Bible says, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21).

In the context of suffering, the Bible teaches that our bodies are not the only thing that can be lost. Our souls can also be lost if we do not have a relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible says, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Matthew 10:28). Our bodies may be weak and decaying, but our souls are what truly matter. We must prioritize our relationship with God and seek to live a life that reflects His values and teachings. This is the only way to truly find purpose and meaning in life, even in the midst of suffering.
