is this what it means to be lost?
What does it mean to be lost, and how does this relate to our relationship with God?
To be lost means to be separated from God, our true reference point, by true moral guilt. This separation is not a matter of being nothing, but rather a state of being without a proper relationship with God. According to the Bible, man is lost because he is depraved and has rejected God (Romans 3:11). However, this does not mean that God has given up on humanity. In fact, God's will is that everyone remain eternally unrepentant, but this does not mean that He has abandoned us. Rather, He has given His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the Savior of humanity, and through Him, we can be reconciled to God.
The concept of being lost is not just about being separated from God, but also about the consequences of that separation. When we are lost, we are without a sense of purpose, meaning, and direction in life. We may feel empty, hopeless, and without peace. However, Jesus teaches us that losing our life for His sake will result in finding it (Matthew 16:25). This means that when we surrender our will, self-seeking, and pride, we can experience peace, joy, and satisfaction.
Ultimately, being lost is not just about our individual circumstances, but also about our relationship with God. When we recognize our lostness and turn to Jesus Christ, we can experience salvation and reconciliation with God. This is not just about avoiding hell, but about having a personal relationship with God and living a life that reflects His values and teachings. As Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand" (John 10:27-29). This is the promise of salvation, and it is available to all who turn to Jesus Christ.
