Living in obedience to God's will is not just about doing good actions, but about living a life grounded in faith and surrender to God's authority. It is not just about making self-willed decisions, but about committing ourselves to God's will and being willing to act solely on what He says. When we obey God, we find that we are grounded on reality, and our conscience directs us to God's perfect law, indicating what we should do. However, the question remains, will we obey? We have to make an act of will to commit ourselves to God's will, placing ourselves completely and absolutely on Him, and be willing to act solely on what He says.

Obedience to God's will is not just about individual actions, but about a life of freedom, liberty, and delight. When we have a right-standing relationship with God, we have a life of obedience, and all of our commonsense decisions are actually His will for us. However, this obedience is not just about following rules or laws, but about living a life of surrender to God's authority. It is about ceding someone authority over us, even when we don't agree with them. God's law is for times of temptation, when body and soul rise in mutiny against their rigour.

So, how do we know if we are living in obedience to God's will? We know by our actions, but also by our attitudes. When we obey God, we find that problems come, not between us and God, but as a means to keep our mind examining with amazement the settled will of God. We know that obedience is by way of the conquest of the world, and that it is coupled with belief and faith. We know that our Lord insisted on our obedience, not because He wanted to make our lives difficult, but because He wanted us to experience the freedom and liberty of living a life of obedience to Him.
