Understanding the Purpose of Life

The question of purpose in life is a profound and universal inquiry that has puzzled humans for centuries. From an evangelical Christian perspective, the purpose of life is rooted in the sovereignty of God over all creation. The Bible teaches that God created the universe and everything in it, including humanity, for a specific purpose (Genesis 1:1). This purpose is not arbitrary or meaningless, but rather is centered on a loving and merciful God who desires a personal relationship with each individual (John 3:16). The purpose of life is to glorify God and enjoy a deep and meaningful relationship with Him.

The concept of purpose in life is often associated with the idea of having a "why" or a reason for existence. From a biblical perspective, this "why" is rooted in the love and redemptive work of God through Jesus Christ. As the apostle Paul wrote, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). This purpose is not limited to individuals with physical abilities or disabilities, but is available to all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. As the psalmist wrote, "Though I walk in darkness, I will not be afraid, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me" (Psalm 23:4).

In the face of physical limitations, such as being confined to a wheelchair, the purpose of life is not diminished, but rather is refined and deepened. As one individual wrote, "Though I am confined to a wheelchair, I will rejoice in the Lord, my Savior" (Psalm 23:5). The purpose of life is not about physical ability or disability, but about living a life that reflects the values and teachings of Jesus Christ. As we seek to understand our purpose in life, we must look to God's Word and seek His guidance and direction. By doing so, we can discover a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment, regardless of our physical circumstances.
