Biblical Answer

As I reflect on the question, "Can I ever find a reason to smile again?" I'm reminded of the importance of joy in our lives. As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with depression and loss of joy. But I've also seen the power of joy in the midst of adversity. In the Bible, we're encouraged to rejoice in the Lord, even in difficult circumstances. This joy is not just a feeling, but a choice we make to focus on the goodness of God, no matter what's happening around us.

As someone who's experienced his own share of struggles, I can attest that joy is not always easy to find. But it's not impossible either. In fact, I believe that joy is a choice we make, even when our circumstances don't feel joyful. We can choose to focus on the beauty of God's creation, on the love of our family and friends, or on the generosity of others. These things can prompt a smile, even in the midst of difficulty. And as the Bible says, "Joy is the antidote for boredom." So, I say to you, yes, you can find a reason to smile again.

As a husband and father, I've seen the impact of joy on my family. When I'm joyful, my wife Susan and my children Joshua and Rebecca are more likely to be joyful too. And when we're all joyful together, it creates a sense of unity and love that's hard to describe. So, I encourage you to look for joy, even when it's hard to find. Ask yourself, "What can I focus on that will bring me joy?" And when you find it, hold on to it, no matter what. Joy is a choice, and it's worth making.
