Can I still have a purpose in life?

The answer to this question is a resounding yes, but only if we consider our purpose in light of God's purpose for us. According to Scripture, our purpose is to fulfill the reason that God created us: to glorify him (1 Corinthians 10:31). This means that our purpose is not something we create for ourselves, but rather it is a calling from God that we are to respond to. When we are speaking about our purpose in life, we must elevate it to our ultimate goal, not just something we do in our free time. As the apostle Paul wrote, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). This means that our purpose is not just something we do, but it is a reflection of who we are in Christ.

If we do not consider our purpose in light of God's purpose for us, we may try to create our own purpose, but it will be lacking in justification based on transcendent value. As the philosopher Bertrand Russell said, "If there is no God, then your life is not qualitatively different from that of an animal." This means that without God, our purpose is reduced to mere chance and our lives are without reason. However, if we believe in God, then our purpose is elevated to something much greater. We are no longer just living for ourselves, but we are living for God and His glory.

In order to find our purpose in life, we must first have a relationship with God. As the Bible says, "My purpose is for you to depend on Him and on His power now" (Romans 12:12). This means that our purpose is not something we achieve on our own, but it is something we receive from God. When we have a relationship with God, we are able to see our purpose in light of His purpose for us, and we are able to live a life that is filled with meaning and purpose. As the apostle Paul wrote, "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). This means that our purpose is not just something we do, but it is a reflection of our relationship with God.
